Dr. Deb Thompson
People and the ups and downs of life have fascinated me since I was a child poring over stories of the triumph of the human spirit from my small-town library. I was deeply moved by how ordinary people navigated difficult times and emerged with courage, resilience, compassion, generosity, gratitude, and connection. My belief in cultivating these core values continues to ground my work today. They form the foundation of my life's purpose: helping to ease human suffering and support growth and flourishing—one client at a time.
For over 30 years, I have been honoured to work as a Registered Psychologist. I celebrate diversity, advocate for social justice, and welcome clients of every identity, orientation, race, and culture. As some career highlights, I have served as an expert witness for the Supreme Court of Canada, been quoted as a wellness authority in Reader's Digest and Prevention Magazine, been published in peer-reviewed journals, offered many workshops/courses, and taught coaching to students from more than 15 countries.
I offer diagnostic assessment to clarify the way forward; help to heal from harmful experiences; guidance for becoming happier, calmer, clearer, more confident, and more connected; and support in cultivating greater joy, resilience, ease, and purpose. Together, we will identify patterns of thinking, feeling, acting, and relating that are serving you—and those that may be getting in the way—and compassionately build the awareness and skills needed for meaningful change.
My approach is tailored to your unique needs. Drawing from decades of experience across a range of counselling, psychotherapy, and coaching modalities, I select the methods and perspectives that best support your goals and circumstances. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); feminist, integral, somatic, and humanistic frameworks; as well as mindfulness, positive psychology, and strengths-based practices.
I value practical tools and skill-building strategies while also offering a warm, supportive therapeutic relationship. Together, we can cultivate greater self-awareness and insight, and explore the personal, cultural, and systemic contexts that shape your experiences. This helps make new perspectives, behaviours, and ways of relating to yourself and others both achievable and sustainable.
