Amanda Krygsman, M.S.W., R.S.W

Amanda is a social worker and pursued her doctorate in counselling to gain advanced skills in counselling and research. Amanda has provided counselling in community and university settings including at the Community Counselling Service at the University of Ottawa. Amanda provides a warm and non-judgmental environment where clients can collaboratively work with her to achieve their personal goals. Her approach to research and practice emphasises the interpersonal context of mental health in the development, maintenance and resolution of presenting concerns. She draws upon cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness approaches in order to assist clients in producing adaptive changes in their lives.

Amanda is completing her Ph.D. in counselling and is a research coordinator at the University of Ottawa. Amanda’s research focuses on the association of peer relations and mental health concurrently and longitudinally. She has a particular interest in what changes the association between peer relations and depression symptoms in childhood and adolescence. Her work has regularly been presented at peer-reviewed national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals such as the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology and the Journal of Social Service Research.
